Professional Background
Legna Figueroa is a bilingual Program Specialist who is passionate about supporting the social, emotional, and mental well-being of students, families, and school communities. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Criminology from Colorado State University–Pueblo and has continued her professional development through training in suicide prevention, crisis response, behavior support, leadership, and mental wellness, including earning her Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification. Throughout her career, Legna has worked in emergency response, court services, community engagement, behavioral health, and mental health support. Her diverse experiences have given her the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life and create environments where individuals feel safe, supported, and valued.
Motivation & Vision
The belief that every person has a unique story has shaped Legna’s approach to both life and work. Her passion for mental wellness, suicide prevention, and helping people build resilience is rooted not only in her professional experience but also in witnessing firsthand the impact that mental health struggles can have on individuals and those who care about them. These experiences deepened her commitment to creating spaces where people matter.
Legna believes meaningful change begins with authentic relationships and genuine curiosity about the experiences of others. Her vision is to help foster resilient school communities where students, educators, and families feel empowered to navigate challenges, build connections, and thrive together. She believes that when people feel valued, hope grows and healing becomes possible.
Superpower of Choice
If Legna could choose any superpower, it would be the ability to instantly speak and understand every language and dialect in the world. She believes language is more than communication; it is connection, culture, and understanding. Being able to communicate with anyone, anywhere, would help her build bridges, learn from others and serve many.
“Growing up in Puerto Rico, I frequently heard the phrase Cada cabeza es un mundo. Sé un explorador. (Every mind is a world of its own. Be an Explorer.)
More than just an expression, it reflects the understanding that every person carries unique experiences, perspectives, challenges, and dreams. The second part of the quote, is my personal response to that lesson. It is a reminder to approach others with curiosity rather than judgment, to listen before making assumptions, and to take the time to understand the stories that shape who people are.”
When She is Not Working
When she’s not working, Legna’s favorite thing to do is spend time with her family, engaging in whatever they are doing, as long as that means being together. She also enjoys spending time outdoors and slowing down long enough to appreciate the world around her, finding joy in discovering the beauty and lessons found along the way.
