MEET the team
Evanglina Macias
Program Generalist
“While working at the Allen County Public Library in the Teen Department, I had the opportunity to connect with Teens in the community, run programs, and help create a safe space where everyone was seen and supported. Those experiences showed me the power of community-based work and inspired me to continue this kind of work on a larger scale.”
Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree at Purdue University Fort Wayne, studied Psychology and Communication
Motivation & Vision
I’m motivated by the opportunity to support both students and educators while helping build strong communities. As well as my family and friends. My parents didn’t have the opportunity to attend college, but they gave my sisters and me the chance to do so. They have always encouraged us to continue our education and find a good job. I want them to see that their hard work made a difference.
Why School Care Team?
As a first-generation student, I know how confusing and overwhelming school can feel without guidance. That is why I am passionate about supporting students and educators through the School Care Team. Growing up, Mental Health was a very taboo subject. I am glad to be a part of a team that brings these conversations into the community. It is essential to demonstrate that mental health is just as important as physical health.
Superpower of Choice
If I had a superpower, I would choose the ability to understand and speak every language. I would be able to connect with and support even more people from diverse backgrounds. I know how difficult it can be not knowing English, especially in school, and to be an outcast, having someone to connect to is something everyone deserves. Having this superpower would enable me to communicate effectively, making everyone feel included and ensuring that no one feels left out or confused due to language barriers. It would also become handy when I am traveling.
